About the project
The MNL in NL project is timely and important for Muslim communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. Although many Muslims have lived in St. John's for more than a generation, as racialized and religious minorities, Muslims are consistently imagined as newcomers.
We want to unveil and share stories that depict a different history. Archives are how histories are written!
Selby and Akinturk, the project leaders for MNL in NL, have also partnered with Anver Emon and Moska Rokay, leading the Muslims in Canada Archive (MiCA), based out of the University of Toronto.
This local archival project has been generously supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada’s Partnership Engage Program.
